An Island in Peace
Gobaith is an island in the Great Ocean, also called the Island of Hope. It is home to various settlements and races coexisting in peace. Nothing happened in Year 35 and they lived happily ever after.
That's a joke, because in the original lore the island apparently sunk, which is when the Very Big Update was released and uprooted the game completely. Our historians haven't quite figured out why, in this timeline, that didn't happen after all. Or if it did happen, why it un-happened 45 years later.
In all honesty: consider this server a beta and don't get too attached to any pre-existing lore. I don't think there will be a character wipe, but I have to find out still what parts of the lore are licensed for us to use.
The Roots of the Realm
Gods and Magic
Gods in the world of Gobaith are commonly known to exist, although their degree of meddling with the world differs from deity to deity. After nothing happened in Year 35, their relevance faded, which is why they shall remain unnamed for now.
Magic has run through Gobaith since its discovery, though few are blessed with its potential, and even fewer are able to harness its powers.
The Settlers
Races and Locations
The races inhabitating Gobaith are Tolkien-adjacent. Elves are wise and get old, dwarves like beer and mining, and orcs don't have much for brains.
The biggest settlement on Gobaith is Troll's Bane, located in the center of the island. It is shared by all races alike and the primary location to meet others.
And where did you come from?
Perhaps you came to Gobaith in the search of new beginnings. Snuck on a ship in hopes of finding work or purpose. Maybe the Fluffy Sheep Tavern is hiring?
Or maybe opening up your own workshop has always been your dream. Gobaith's richness in resources make it the perfect place for new endeavours.
And if neither barkeeping nor carpentry are a match to your wits, it might be time to camp the steps of the Magic Academy in hopes of finding a teacher.
Either way: it's your story, and it's aching to be written.
